Long Journey Home is Russ Pond's 7th short film. After finishing his feature film, Fissure, in 2008, Pond has been focused on the business of distributing Fissure. During that time, he was "itching" to produce again.

This story had been "rattling around" in his head for four years. A film festival known as The Doorpost was ramping up for its second annual online festival. So, Pond used the festival as a motivation to make Long Journey Home.

Using the outline he mapped out in his head over the years, he brought on some writers to help finish the story. With Pond's outline as a basis, the writers hammered out the first draft in one day.

Shooting took place across five, very busy days. Interestingly, there were almost 3 times as many locations in Long Journey Home than there was in Pond's feature film, Fissure.

Once editing started, Pond completed the first rough edit. The seven page script came out to a 19 minute film. Two versions will eventually be released: 7-minute short version and the full "director's cut".

Russ Pond is the owner of Top Pup Media, a Dallas Video Production company.
